About Import to Brazil
Who we are, why we built these tools, and why they're free.
Import to Brazil exists because we couldn't find what we needed. As Brazilians working in international trade, we watched foreign companies struggle with the same questions: What's the NCM code? How much will taxes add? Does Ex-Tarifário apply? Which state should we clear through?
The answers existed — scattered across Portuguese-language government portals, buried in dense legal texts, and locked behind paid consulting fees. We built the tools we wished existed: free, in English, with real data from official sources.
What we cover
What this site is and isn't
What we are
- A reference tool for understanding Brazilian import costs
- An educational resource for navigating Brazil's trade system
- A free alternative to paid customs databases
- Built and maintained by people who work in Brazilian trade
- A bridge connecting foreign companies with Brazil's trade ecosystem
What we are NOT
- A substitute for a licensed customs broker (despachante aduaneiro)
- An official government source
- A customs clearance service
- Legal or tax advice
Our calculations are estimates based on official rates and standard formulas. Actual import costs depend on customs classification decisions, exchange rates at the time of clearance, specific product regulations, and state-level incentive programs. Always work with a despachante aduaneiro for official classification and tax calculation.
Why free?
Brazil's trade complexity is a barrier that disproportionately hurts smaller companies. Large multinationals have customs departments and consultants. A mid-sized European manufacturer trying to sell a machine to Brazil often has no idea where to start.
By making these tools free and accessible, we help more companies understand the real cost of exporting to Brazil — which ultimately helps Brazil attract more investment and technology.
